LA Lakers Open Training Camp in Hawaii
A photo of Kobe Bryant emerging from their first three-hour practice splashes the Sports section of the Honolulu Advertiser.
The LA Lakers will be in Honolulu for the next nine days as they begin their pre-season training. Held at Iolani School gym due to a scheduling conflict at the Stan Sheriff Center, practices are closed to the public.
So what’s in store for Phil Jackson’s team this year? With a record of 42-40 last season, players and fans alike expressed frustration over the losing streak. Kobe Bryant, who made headlines in the off-season with his public criticism of management and team members, has refocused his energy to unite this team back together – which is exactly what they need if they expect to have a shot at reclaiming the championship title.
It’s time to get past those thoughts and for the Lakers to get back on track towards being the champions that they are notorious for being. Among the attendees at training camp were veterans Derek Fisher and Kobe Bryant aong with returning starters Luke Walton and Lamar Odom, Andrew Bynum, Kwame Brown, Brian Cook, Maurice Evans, Jordan Farmar, Chris Mihm, Vladimir Radmanovic, Ronny Turiaf and Sasha Vujacic.
The Golden State Warriors are also holding their training camp at the Cannon Activities Center on the BYU-Hawaii Campus. The training camps will end with two pre-season games next Tuesday, October 9 and Thursday, October 11 at 7 p.m. at the Stan Sheriff Center. Ticket costs are $10 - $35 for upper level seats and $45 - $80 for lower level seats. Senior and military discounts are available.

The LA Lakers are a bunch of animals. Did anyone see the riots anfter the game 7 this week? What kind of fans celebrate by destroying their own city? According to AP, 38 people were arrested for “public intoxication, vandalism or inciting a riot.” Probably doesn’t help to have criminals on the team. Rob Artest seems to have escaped that dog abuse charge easily. In any case, the pro basketball is starting to seem pre arranged. Lakers always appear to get more than their share. Just look at years past. Wonder if it’s because of gambling.
