Hawaii Superferry Ruling Delayed Yet Another Day
With Hawaii Superferry losing more than $650,000 per week you would think that they would hurry it up a bit. But I guess you can’t rush decisions like this, can you?
Forget the fact that a local business is reportedly getting deeper in debt daily and may consider leaving the islands.
Forget the fact that the monopoly on inter-island cargo carriers will resume should the Hawaii Superferry leaves.
Forget that 90% of 300 workers will get laid off if the boat is tied up for the environmental assessment. Just think of all those people who left jobs to support the ferry.
You have to also consider the huge oversights made the Hawaii Superferry themselves. Surely some type of research would’ve brought to light potential concerns that the local people? Surely some type of discussion would’ve saved the Hawaii Superferry time and money. Is this poor planning?
A couple of months ago we started talking about the mess that the Hawaii Superferry is in. The boat is still sitting idle in the Honolulu Harbor. I must say, that whenever I pass by, it does look like a great boat.
But the environmental concerns are very real ones and if the Hawaii Superferry’s track record for foresight and planning is anything like what they’ve experienced at the start up, they will need some help via an environmental assessment.
There is still huge support for the success of the Hawaii Superferry. The legislation is even considering holding an emergency session to discuss ways to financially help the Superferry.
I guess the saga continues for just one more day…
