The Facts
• Domestic violence affects many of our island homes
• Domestic violence is not about anger, stress or drugs, it’s when one person controls, dominates and/or coerces their partner.
• It knows no boundaries: Domestic violence crosses all cultural, religious, educational, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
• 1 in 4 women experience violence at the hands of a partner in their lifetime.
• Every year, nearly 1200 women are murdered by a current or former partner in the United States.
• Although women are the victims of domestic violence 85% of the time, it affects all of us…we can all be a part of the solution.
