Blue Angels in Paradise
Last month it was the fabulous Thunderbirds. This month we’re in for another treat! The Blue Angels received a warm Hawaiian welcome earlier this week at Kaneohe Marine Corps Base. The last time the Blue Angels performed in Hawaii was back in 2004 and in 1995. Four F/A-18 Hornets of the eight member team of the Navy Blue Angels will perform two air shows this weekend at the base. The event is free and open to the public.
The F/A-18 Hornet is amazing to look at! Resembling a hornet (what it’s named after), this jet can fly over 1,200 mph (also known as Mach 1.7). These jets are 56 feet long and have a 40 feet wingspan.
The mission of the Blue Angels team is to enhance the Navy and Marine Corps recruiting and to represent the Naval service to the civilian community. It’s also Kaneohe Marine Corps’ mission this weekend to improve the relationship with the community. With the Blue Angels in town, the Base will get lot so of traffic. The Blue Angels are expected to draw over 100,000 people for their two air shows this weekend.

Their maneuvers are awesome! The Blue Angels’ Hornets hold their formations being just inches apart from each other. And these moves aren’t easy! This flight demonstration will show the skills and the aerobatic choreography of the Navy. Fast-paced high performance maneuvers coupled with precision flying skills will definitely be a part of the show this coming weekend!
This weekend’s event at Kaneohe Marine Corps Base is called 2007 Blues on the Bay. It will be held both Saturday and Sunday from 9am – 6pm. The air shows are scheduled at 11am and at 5pm. Admission is free and open to the public.
