“Your Best Bet” Mother’s Day Gift Ideas for Hawaii Mom’s

by Coreen Nishijo

mothers_day_dancing.jpgMake Mom’s gift extra personal this year. I know finding something she likes might be a little difficult since we no longer come home with those cute, school made mugs, photo frames or drawings that she always loved, but hey, we need to step up anyway. Here are some of unique things you can get for Mom and perhaps, you can even share in the experience with her.

(1) A trip to the spa – manicure, pedicure and massage – okay. Now this is what I would like so I’m hoping one of my kids will somehow see this message and get inspired to send me to the spa. Which one? The Ihilani Resort and Spa always works for me!

(2) A family photo opportunity – take a family portrait at a local photo studio. Handle the sitting fees and the picture fees as well. The photo also makes a great gift that she can use to decorate her home!

(3) Dinner at John Dominis Restaurant – one of the most noted fine dining restaurants is scheduled to close their doors later this year. If you’re a buffet person, John Dominis Restaurant puts on one of the most exquisite Sunday Brunch Buffets available in the islands. The quality and selection of the kinds of foods served beat the rest of bunch HANDS DOWN!

(4) Tickets to Cirque Dreams – playing only until Sunday. Tickets starting at $30. Two shows today and Sunday. Check out www.ticketmaster.com or purchase tickets at the Blaisdell Box Office.

(5) Jewelry always works – A charm or a pendant is always nice to present to Mom. The fancier, the better.

(6) A gift card to the mall – Ala Moana, Kahala, Pearl Ridge or Windward Mall. Gift cards are great, there’s no doubt, but make Mom’s gift this year a little more personal. Choose a specific store that she likes. Maybe it’s Williams & Sonoma or Macy’s. Maybe she wants to check out

(7) Tickets to “The Rhythm of Romance - 2” featuring Gladys Knight, American Idols Kimberley Locke and Aaron Neville” www.hawaiiromancefestival.com May 10 only at 7:30 pm at the Blaisdell Arena.

If you’ve got some last minute suggestions to share, please let us know!
